A representative of the Gaddafi family, Basem al-Hashimi-Saul, said that the son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Seif al-Islam Gaddafi, will stand for president next year. This statement was made against the backdrop of scandals with the activities in Libya of slave markets and the deteriorating humanitarian situation. The political process and the peaceful settlement are not just stalling, but at a dead end. Al-Sul assured that Gaddafi Jr. has a full-fledged program, which he will present soon. It includes "procedures that Seif al-Islam hopes will be approved by the UN, and which can help Libya move from the current transition period to stability." In mid-October 2017, the lawyer of the Gaddafi family, Khaled Al-Zaidi, told Al Arabiya TV that Seif al-Islam Gaddafi started political activities in the territory of his unfortunate country. "Safe al-Islam participates in the life of Libyan society, it maintains contacts with public figures and leaders of the Libyan tribes in order to form a comprehensive program," said Zaidi. According to him, the son of the leader of the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya holds consultations and meetings "to reach agreement and a real political settlement" in the country. Az-Zaidi denied allegations that the son of a former Libyan leader left his homeland. "Safari al-Islam did not leave Libya and will not leave the country," said the lawyer, but refused to give the exact location where he is currently.

It should be noted that the presentation of Az-Zaidi only led to the information space long-begun work - in the spring, until the release of Gaddafi, the High Council of the Libyan tribes appointed him head of the Provisional Government in exile.

Safe al-Islam Gaddafi (the eldest son of Muammar Gaddafi from his second marriage) was considered by his father as a probable successor. He was born on June 25, 1972 in Tripoli. He received an excellent and versatile education, has a Ph.D. Since October 23, 2011, Seif al-Islam led the resistance forces to the Transitional National Council of Libya, vowing to avenge the martyrdom of his father. "We continue to resist. I'm in Libya, I'm alive, free and I'm determined to fight to the end and take revenge”, he said in an address to supporters, broadcast by the Ar-Ray TV channel. 19.11.2011 Gaddafi, Jr. was captured by the fighters of the group "Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq" from the city of Zintan. Long stayed in Zintan prison, subjected to humiliation and torture. The Appeals Court in Tripoli on July 24, 2015 sentenced him in absentia with death sentence on charges of "crimes against the Libyan people" (Saif al-Islam himself was not present in the courtroom and gave testimony on the video link from Zintan), but the uncontrollable Zintan brigades categorically refused to hand over the prisoner the capital authorities, with whom they repeatedly feuded after the fall of the previous regime. The International Criminal Court has brought a charge against Gaddafi Jr. in "crimes against humanity" and for the last few years requires its extradition for the trial in The Hague. 11/06/2015 ICC Prosecutor Fatu Bensuda reported that Zintan armed groups refuse to transfer Saif Al-Islam to the International Criminal Court. At the beginning of June 2017, Seif al-Islam was released from the Zintan prison. It is known that he went from there to the large city of Al-Baida. Commander of the Libyan National Army Field Marshal Khalifa Belkasim Haftar said that he did not object to the participation of the late leader's son in the political life of the country. In various parts of the country leaflets with photos and appeals of Gaddafi the younger are posted. He invariably leads in popularity in the polls, which are conducted in the Libyan segments of social networks - ahead of the aforementioned Haftar.

And now Seif al-Islam actually becomes the leader and banner of all supporters of his late father. For Gaddafi are not only part of the tribes (including his own), but also the image of his father as the "leader of the nation”. With all the complex composition of Libya (collected from three different provinces only seven decades ago) in itself the name of Gaddafi provides 45-year-old Seif al-Islam an indisputable advantage over any rival.

Especially in case if direct national elections are held - but for their organization it is necessary to restore the unity of the country, which is actually still far away. The East and West of Libya, Cyrenaica and Tripolitania are controlled by different authorities and different armies - but sooner or later the same Field Marshal Haftar (leading the east of the country) will complete the unification of the country peacefully or militarily. And then elections of the new head of the state can pass also.

Khalifa Haftaru will be 75 years next year, and even if he suddenly decides to become president himself, he is unlikely to rule for long. But Seif al-Islam Gaddafi is now 45, and you can hardly doubt that sooner or later he will lead Libya.
